(Platelet-Rich Plasma)

What Does PRP Do?

Platelet-rich plasma injections contain a high concentration of platelets, a healing agent found in your blood. PRP activates growth factors in the body, causing cellular regrowth and increased collagen and elastin production.

What Can PRP Treat?

  • Hair loss
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Skin laxity
  • Dull skin

Why PRP?

  • Minimally invasive
  • Can be easily combined with other treatments
  • Short, 30-minute sessions
  • Safe for all skin types
  • No risk of rejection or adverse side effects

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been used to aid in the recovery of sports injuries and surgeries for years. Platelet-rich plasma is a natural healing agent derived from a sample of your own blood that aids in hair restoration and skin rejuvenation.

Learn More About PRP

PRP may be used to restore lost hair, reduce wrinkles, tighten sagging skin, diminish acne scars, and improve overall complexion. Platelet-rich plasma activates the growth factors in your body to signal cellular regrowth and production of collagen and elastin. These growth factors help promote natural hair regrowth and skin rejuvenation.

While PRP injections can be performed as their own treatment, PRP is often combined with other rejuvenation procedures, such as microneedling, to improve the results of the treatments and decrease their recovery time.

During your PRP treatment, your Coolspa provider will draw a small blood sample. The blood spins in a centrifuge to separate it into its components and isolate the portion that is rich in platelets and growth factors. Your provider will then inject the platelet-rich plasma into your scalp or skin, signaling the area to begin healing.

PRP for Hair Restoration

PRP hair restoration offers a non-surgical option for patients struggling with hair loss. After collecting and processing the PRP, your provider will inject it into the target area. The entire procedure should take less than 30 minutes.

We generally recommend a series of three treatments spaced four weeks apart for optimal hair regrowth. Many patients begin to see results within four to six months. For those in the early stages of hair loss, PRP works well alongside Formula 82M, a prescription-strength topical hair loss serum, or hair loss supplements from Nutrafol

PRP With Laser Light Therapy

To further encourage new hair growth, we also offer various models of Capillus Rx, a discrete cap that provides mobile laser light therapy to prevent hair loss and stimulate growth. Capillus Rx utilizes 650-nanometer red light to stimulate an enzyme known as cytochrome c oxidase. This causes the body to produce more energy, which is then used to send vital nutrients to hair follicles.

By encouraging increased circulation on the scalp, dormant hair follicles are stimulated to re-enter their growth cycle. This non-invasive and painless treatment is an excellent supplement to PRP treatment for hair restoration. For more severe hair loss, your Coolspa provider may recommend SmartGraft® hair restoration

PRP for Skin Rejuvenation

PRP can be used for facials and other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as microneedling. After extracting the platelets, your provider will inject the PRP into the target area with a needle or a microneedling device. Your face will absorb the proteins to boost your collagen and elastin production. The entire procedure typically takes up to 30 minutes.

For optimal skin rejuvenation, you may need three or more PRP appointments. Most patients see a decrease in wrinkles and other skin concerns within a few weeks to months after their treatments.

PRP injections require no downtime. You may experience mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising for a few hours or days. Adverse reactions are extremely uncommon with platelet-rich plasma since the injectable is derived from your own blood. Most patients can return to their usual activities immediately following their treatment.

There are many benefits associated with PRP, including:

  • Increased elastin and collagen production
  • Long-lasting results
  • Cost-effective
  • No downtime

PRP injections are safe for all skin types and are a great option for those not ready to undergo surgical hair replacement. Since the platelets are from your blood, there is no risk of the rejection that sometimes occurs in synthetic treatments.

Most people are good candidates for PRP treatments. PRP may be used to restore your hair or skin to its bright and youthful appearance. PRP is a good treatment for those who want to avoid more aggressive treatments that may require more extensive downtime, anesthesia, or scars.

You may not be a good candidate for PRP injections if you have cancer, HIV, or certain other blood diseases.
