You’re probably familiar with microneedling, a skin rejuvenation treatment that’s been popular for years to improve wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and more. But what is micro-coring?

Similar to microneedling, the Ellacor® handpiece has small needles at the end. Rather than just puncturing the skin, however, these needles remove tiny cores of skin. Each core is less than half a millimeter in diameter, small enough that the damage starts healing immediately and requires no bandaging. 
This micro-coring process stimulates a healing response that increases collagen production, just like microneedling. Removing a small amount of skin has an even greater tightening effect. As excess skin is removed and your body quickly seals the tiny openings, your skin’s surface is drawn smoother and tighter. Ellacor® helps minimize wrinkles and tighten the skin for a rejuvenated appearance.

Before your treatment, you’ll meet with a Coolspa expert for a detailed consultation. Ellacor® is often performed on the lower or mid-face, or it can be used as a spot treatment for small areas of concern. It can also treat wrinkles and skin laxity on the body.

Your Ellacor® procedure will likely take less than an hour. First, we will numb the treatment area. Your provider will then use ultrasound guidance for optimal precision as they move the Ellacor® device over the skin. The tiny needles will suction out micro-cores in a grid-like pattern. We can adjust the intensity of treatment depending on your needs, removing more or less skin. At higher intensity, Ellacor® can remove up to 8% of skin in the treatment area.

After the treatment, we’ll apply topical PRP to your skin to soothe it and promote healing. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a solution made from your own blood that’s full of growth factors and stem cells. There may be pinpoint bleeding immediately after an Ellacor® treatment, but by the time you leave our office, the tiny punctures will already begin to close.

Each patient’s recovery timeline depends on their personal rate of healing and the intensity of their treatment. Generally, patients take a few days to a week of downtime after Ellacor®. You may expect swelling, redness, and minor discomfort during this time. Keep the treatment area clean and moisturized with the products given to you by your provider for the first 5-7 days.  Avoid makeup for the first 72 hours following treatment. You should also limit sun exposure and use sunscreen to protect your skin. 

Since Ellacor® rejuvenates the skin by triggering a healing response, proper aftercare to promote healing is essential. We’ll give you detailed pre and post-treatment instructions for the best outcome.

Ellacor® may not be recommended for patients who are pregnant or nursing, have certain medical conditions, take certain medications, or have open wounds or facial implants in the treatment area.
