Cellulite Treatments

Jump to section:

Cellulite is an extremely common condition in women. It is estimated that 80% to 90% of adult women have cellulite and are bothered by its appearance. As common as cellulite is, it is only in recent years that we have begun to fully understand what causes cellulite and been able to develop proper tools to treat it.

In the superficial layer of tissue under the skin, there are vertical fibrous bands of connective tissue called septa. The relationship between these septa and the surrounding fatty tissue causes cellulite. Imagine a quilt. The indentations caused by the quilt’s stitching are very similar to fibrous bands that pull down on the skin and cause a cellulite dimple or line.

In between these fibrous bands is a layer of fat that normally resides directly under the skin. When that fatty layer expands, it presses against the vertical bands that go straight up to the skin, making the indentation of the dimple look even worse. As people age, skin typically loses some of its original elasticity. The resulting skin laxity can also contribute to the appearance of cellulite. Other factors that can influence cellulite include genetics, activity level, and skin thickness.

At Coolspa, we offer multiple state-of-the-art treatment options for cellulite. We’ll assess your condition and goals to help you determine which of these treatments is best for you.

Cellfina®

What is Cellfina®?
Cellfina® is safe, effective, and FDA-cleared for the minimally invasive treatment of cellulite and dimpled, puckered skin that can make for an unsightly aesthetic as well as social discomfort.

What can Cellfina® treat?

  • Cellulite dimples on the buttocks and thigh

Why Cellfina®?

  • Long-term solution
  • Safe, FDA-cleared
  • No IV or general anesthesia
  • Excellent results and high patient satisfaction

The tiny, unobtrusive Cellfina® device can reliably and safely disrupt the connective bands that cause cellulite. In clinical studies, 93% of Cellfina® patients were still satisfied with their results at the three-year mark. With such high patient satisfaction, Cellfina® is the leading cellulite treatment on the market in terms of patient approval.

Learn More About Cellfina®

Cellfina® utilizes a method called subcision to create precise, subdermal micro-cuts that release the fibrous bands responsible for the dimpling effect on the skin’s surface. The small, handheld device applies suction and negative pressure to the skin, allowing the microblade to access the fibrous bands.

This releases the tension that is pulling down on the skin and causing the dimpling effect. As a result, the skin appears smoother and firmer, with less visible cellulite. Cellfina provides a long-lasting solution that can be completed in a single visit, allowing patients to achieve smoother, more youthful-looking skin without surgery or downtime.

On the day of your procedure, your NYC team will mark each cellulite dimple to be treated. They will then administer local anesthesia to numb the area and prevent any discomfort. Once the area is numbed, suction is applied to isolate one cellulite dimple at a time, and the needle-sized microblade is inserted to release the septa carefully. This process is repeated for each dimple. The entire Cellfina® treatment typically takes an hour or less.

The average Cellfina® patient can resume normal activities within 24 hours, giving Cellfina® its reputation for minimal downtime and an expedited recovery period. Some patients may experience minor bruising, soreness, and tenderness at the treatment site, but these side effects usually resolve quickly and can be addressed with over-the-counter medications like Tylenol and ice packs. Most patients will have no bruising at the one-month marker.

Aveli™

What is Aveli™?
Aveli™ is a new, highly effective, minimally invasive cellulite reduction treatment. Your experienced Coolspa plastic surgeon will use the Aveli™ device to visibly reduce cellulite in just one simple in-office procedure.

What can Aveli™ treat?

  • Cellulite dimples on the buttocks and thighs
  • Linear cellulite can also be treated in many cases

Why Aveli®?

  • Impressive results after just one treatment
  • Only one to two small, discreet incisions
  • High precision
  • Immediate confirmation when a cellulite dimple has been released
  • Long-term results

Aveli™ is the most advanced treatment to target and release the fibrous bands that cause the appearance of cellulite. According to the founder of Coolspa, Dr. Rapaport, the best way to understand Aveli™ is to think of it as a much more evolved Cellfina®. The Aveli™ device allows your Coolspa expert to manually cut the septa and release the fibrous bands that pull down the skin’s surface.

Learn More About Aveli™

Unlike Cellfina®, Aveli™ only requires one to two incisions to target all cellulite dimples in the treatment area. The incision is only 2mm long and will be hidden in the crease under the buttocks or over an existing scar or stretch mark.

The Aveli™ device will be inserted under the skin through this incision, and your surgeon will secure the septa with a small hook. They can then put a small amount of tension on the device to pull down the cellulite dimple farther, ensuring they have secured the correct septa.

A retractable blade is then used to carefully cut the septa and release the dimpling within the skin. Your surgeon will then immediately go back under the same area to confirm that they have released the targeted dimple or line.

Aveli™ is generally performed under local anesthesia with oral medication given upfront. We also offer IV sedation for patients who desire maximum comfort. When combined with liposuction, IV sedation is often the preferred choice. The entire in-office procedure takes about an hour, including the local anesthesia. Treatment of multiple cellulite spots may take two or more hours to complete.

There is very minimal downtime associated with Aveli™ treatments. In a clinical trial, most patients returned to their daily activities within 24-48 hours of the procedure. However, you should avoid working out and other strenuous activities for the first one to two weeks after treatment.

Patients may experience mild pain and discomfort at the treatment site for the first 24 hours after Aveli™. During recovery, bruising and tenderness are also normal, but these side effects are typically minor and resolve within 30 days. After approximately one month, full cellulite-reduction results will be visible once swelling and bruising subside.

RESONIC™

What is RESONIC™?
Resonic™ is the latest treatment option for reducing the appearance of cellulite. It generates Rapid Acoustic Pulses™, which are high-frequency sound waves emitted up to 50 times per second. These pulses target the septa and result in smoother, younger-looking skin.

What can RESONIC™ treat?

  • Cellulite dimples on the buttocks and thighs

Why RESONIC™?

  • Minimal side effects and no downtime
  • Fast treatment, fast results
  • Non-invasive
  • 93% patient satisfaction in clinical trials

Imagine effectively treating cellulite with no incisions, needles, side effects, or downtime. The new cutting-edge, FDA-cleared cellulite treatment called Resonic™ has made this possible. It uses safe, high-frequency sound waves to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Learn More About RESONIC™

The RESONIC™ platform uses proprietary technology to safely emit high-frequency shockwaves sent into the skin from an applicator held over the affected area. Calibrated to target only the septa that are causing your cellulite, Resonic™ generates a “Rapid Acoustic Pulse” of more than 100 waves per second. The repeated waves cause the fibrous bands to lose their hold on the skin and release it from its dimpled position. This leaves the treated skin smoother and more youthful-looking.

Most patients will require between one to three treatment sessions with RESONIC™, spaced four to six weeks apart, to obtain maximal results in the appearance of their cellulite. The exact number of treatments will vary and be personalized to each patient’s needs.

RESONIC™ doesn’t require any anesthesia, and the treatments typically take just 30-60 minutes. There are no incisions or needles, and most patients experience little to no discomfort, just some mild warmth or tingling as your Coolspa expert moves the device over your treatment area.

Patients can typically resume their regular activities immediately after a RESONIC™ treatment. You may have mild redness in the treated area for a few hours, but Resonic™ doesn’t require downtime. Unlike many other cellulite treatments, it doesn’t cause bruising. The primary benefit of RESONIC™ over its competitors, including Aveli™, is that it has little to no side effects and no downtime.

Who is a Good Candidate for Cellulite Treatment?

If you have unwanted cellulite and are looking for a long-term solution, you may be a good candidate for Aveli™ or RESONIC™. Our specialists at Coolspa can help you determine which of these treatments is best suited for your needs.

Treatment with Aveli™ visibly reduces the appearance of cellulite but does not address skin laxity. If you have loose skin along with cellulite, we may recommend an additional treatment, such as Morpheus8. RESONIC™ is a great treatment option for any adult woman interested in improving the appearance of cellulite and skin texture without needing to take a day off. No blades, injections, or incisions are required.

Why Should I Choose CoolSpa for Cellulite Treatments?

At Coolspa, cellulite reduction with Aveli™ is performed by experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons. The founder of Coolspa, Dr. Rapaport, is a leader in the cosmetic surgery field with decades of positive results. In contrast, many other medical spa providers who offer cellulite treatments have never dealt with the complexities of body contouring or the skin’s underlying layers.

Many patients who come to us for Aveli™ choose to have a body contouring procedure, such as liposuction, simultaneously. This way, they only have one recovery timeline and can benefit from better pricing options.

Whether you undergo Aveli™ or RESONIC™, the body sculpting specialists at Coolspa can reduce your cellulite with a careful eye for aesthetic balance and artistic harmony. Dr. Rapaport and Coolspa were handpicked among only 18 practices in the U.S. to have first access to the innovative Resonic™ technology, now available at our Flatiron office, conveniently located near Union Square. Through our extensive knowledge and experience, Coolspa has earned a reputation for offering among the best results available in the New York area.
