Learn More About Botox®

Neuromodulators inhibit nerve transmission through an agent called botulinum toxin. They work by temporarily reducing the activity of targeted muscles in your face, which, in turn, diminishes the appearance of wrinkles that form from repeated muscle contractions. The effect of Botox® typically lasts three to five months, depending on your personal metabolism and the amount of substance injected.

Dysport® 

This popular neuromodulator option produces natural-looking results, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Dysport® is fast-acting, and many patients see a noticeable improvement within two to three days after treatment. With Botox®, on the other hand, results may take a few more days to reach their optimal level. Dysport® and Botox® can both last up to five months. 

Xeomin®

Xeomin® is sometimes called a “naked neurotoxin.” This refers to the fact that Xeomin’s formulation only contains one ingredient, botulinum toxin A, while the competing neuromodulators contain a small concentration of other proteins. 

While the exact incidence is unknown, a small percentage of patients develop resistance to botulinum toxin, which is believed to be caused by the associated proteins. Therefore, some people who do not show much effect from Dysport® or Botox® may do well with Xeomin®. Xeomin® treatments are just as effective as Botox® overall, but some patients may find that one works better for them than another. 

Jeuveau®

Jeuveau® is a neuromodulator injectable option that may give some patients a softer and longer-lasting finish. It has a similar composition as Botox® with proteins attached to the toxin, but it’s the only neuromodulator developed only for aesthetic uses. Like Botox®, Jeuveau® treats the visible signs of aging by temporarily halting the motions of specifically targeted facial muscles. This creates a smoother, younger look while also preventing the formation of new lines.

Daxxify® 

Daxxify® is a newly FDA-approved neuromodulator injectable that can provide longer-lasting results than other neuromodulators on the market. Unlike alternatives, Daxxify® does not contain animal substances or human serum albumin. Rather, it utilizes peptide exchange technology to maintain rejuvenating effects for a median period of six months. Additionally, while other injectables can take several days to show noticeable results, the effects of Daxxify® will most likely be visible within just one day. 

At Coolspa, our plastic surgeons, expertly trained nurses, and physician assistants administer neuromodulators. During your consultation with your Coolspa provider, they will determine the effect you seek. 

Some patients seek complete relaxation of the area with no movement at all, while others prefer a small amount of movement, creating a more natural effect. When treating the forehead, for example, some people desire a slight amount of natural movement of the eyebrows. Others want the forehead to be completely frozen. This is a matter of personal aesthetic taste, and we create a unique treatment to fit each person’s aesthetic goals. 

Finally, some wish to change their eyebrow position with Botox® treatments. Expertly relaxing parts of a muscle can often accomplish this, making the other parts of the muscle move more. The result is a natural-looking brow lift with an anti-aging effect that makes the patient look less tired.

A typical treatment with a neuromodulator should take less than 30 minutes. Our providers place a large emphasis on patient comfort throughout the entire process. We use a vibrating device that greatly diminishes the patient’s sense of discomfort during injectable treatments.

Usually, we do not use a numbing ointment for Botox®, but it is an option for patients who are extremely sensitive to even the pinch of a tiny injection. For patients with extreme anxiety, we can customize the treatment using a variety of techniques to minimize discomfort (this could even include pre-treatment relaxing medication or laughing gas administration during treatments). 

Because the botulinum toxin contains saline, there is a small bump at each injection site, which will disappear in less than 30 minutes. As with any injection, it is possible to get a bruise, and this could take several days to resolve. Our expert injectors use excellent lighting on top of their experience to help minimize the chance of bruising.

Most people begin to see a reduction in the appearance of their wrinkles after a few days. Botox® treatment results typically last three to five months.

Neuromodulators are an excellent option to reduce dynamic fine lines and wrinkles without surgery or downtime. Potential neuromodulator candidates will be in relatively good health, not pregnant, and have realistic expectations for their results. 

Different neuromodulators may be better suited for you depending on how your body processes the specific formulations. At Coolspa, we do not use a cookie-cutter approach to facial injections, including botulinum toxin. We personalize every treatment and tailor it to the patient’s aesthetic preferences. Additionally, after your first botulinum toxin treatment, we will want to see you for a follow-up in 10 to 14 days or at least review a selfie from that time. During this follow-up, we ensure that we have achieved the desired effect. 

This review is very important because some patients may have a result that we would not consider ideal, even though they do not notice the imperfections themselves. By reviewing the result after 10 to 14 days, we can sometimes improve the final outcome with a touch-up. 

This follow-up is also beneficial to learn better what exact dosage is optimal for that specific patient. This way, their future treatments will more precisely give them the result that they want. Of course, we do not charge for touch-up treatments of botulinum toxin when performed within 30 days after treatment. 

Our documentation is also extremely meticulous and unique. Most places simply note how much product was administered to a given area. At Coolspa, we will actually indicate on the face at each point of injection how much product is being used. This allows us to get the dosage precisely right, and because we take a photo of these markings, we have them for future treatments.
