Typical tattoo removal takes so many sessions because each pass of the laser causes microscopic bubbles to form called vacuoles. These bubbles make it impossible to perform more laser passes until they go away on their own. 

When the laser is used along with RESONIC™ between passes, the “Rapid Acoustic Pulses” (RAP) soundwaves produced cause the vacuoles and pigment to dissipate. This allows multiple laser treatments to be performed in the same session.

We will use the Q-Switched or Picosure® laser to begin removing your tattoo. We then place the RESONIC™ device on the skin over the area, using it to accomplish three things:

  • Dispersal of the microscopic particles of ink, allowing the body to flush these away quickly and naturally
  • Disruption of the macrophage, a specific type of cell that absorbs the tattoo ink and holds the tattoo in position
  • The breaking apart of steam-filled vacuoles, or bubbles, that develop and form under your skin during the laser process disperses the ink further

By clearing away these cellular barriers and allowing the body to dispose of them naturally, RESONIC™ enables each patient to receive more applications of the laser in a single session without needing to wait several weeks for the skin to heal. This process elevates regular laser tattoo removal by making it faster, less painful, more effective, and less time-consuming.

Prior to your first laser tattoo removal session, your specialist at Coolspa will brief you on how to prepare for treatment, your expected treatment timeline, and potential side effects. Once you are prepared, the specialist will use a small amount of anesthesia to numb the area. You will feel the pulse of sound waves produced by RESONIC™ and experience a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping as the laser works. This process may cause mild stinging or discomfort. 

You can return to your daily routine in less than an hour after laser tattoo removal. Coolspa will suggest aftercare procedures to best treat the sensitive area. These include:

  • When needed, wash gently with soap and water.
  • If crust is evident, avoid shaving.
  • Avoid contact sports or other activities that could cause injury to the treated area.
  • Avoid exposure to the sun.
  • Avoid scratching or rubbing. 
  • Avoid immersing in water.
  • If irritation occurs, apply a thin layer of Aquaphor.
