  • Cellulite is an extremely common condition in women. It is estimated that 80% to 90% of adult women have cellulite and are bothered by its appearance. The plastic surgeons at Coolspa offer Aveli™ treatments to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite with a single treatment.

    What is Cellulite?

As common as cellulite is, it is only in recent years that we have begun to fully understand what causes cellulite and been able to develop proper tools to treat it.

In the superficial layer of tissue under the skin, there are vertical fibrous bands of connective tissue, also known as septa. Cellulite is caused by the relationship between these septa and the surrounding fatty tissue. Imagine a quilt. The indentations that are caused by the stitching of the quilt are very similar to fibrous bands that pull down on the skin and cause a cellulite dimple or line.

In between these fibrous bands is a layer of fat that normally resides directly under the skin. When that fatty layer expands, it presses against the vertical bands that go straight up to the skin, making the indentation of the dimple look even worse. Cellulite dimples don’t just look like dots; there are also dimples that appear as lines or bumps on the skin.

As people age, skin typically loses some of its original elasticity. The older we get, the more there is also a skin laxity issue, which can also contribute to the appearance of cellulite. Other factors that can influence cellulite include genetics, activity level, and skin thickness.

    How Aveli™ Cellulite Treatment Works

Until the development of Aveli™, the technology primarily used to treat cellulite dimples was called Cellfina®. The problem with Cellfina® is that it is a ‘cookie-cutter’ procedure that gives no confirmation that a cellulite dimple has been released. Cellfina® can also only treat true circular dimples effectively and doesn’t do well with lines of cellulite.Additionally, Cellfiina® requires a 2 mm scar for almost every single dimple you treat. These tiny scars may heal invisibly, but they also may not. Even if they do fade with time, they may drive you crazy for the three to six months that it takes for the redness to start fade.

Aveli™, on the other hand, is the most advanced treatment to target and release the fibrous bands that cause the appearance of cellulite. According to the founder of Coolspa, Dr. Rapaport, the best way to understand Aveli™ is to think of it as a much more evolved Cellfina®. The Aveli™ device allows an expert Coolspa plastic surgeon to manually cut the septa and release the fibrous bands that pull down the skin’s surface.

Unlike Cellfina®, Aveli™ only requires one to two incisions to target all of the cellulite dimples in the treatment area. The incision is only 2mm in length and will be hidden in the crease under the buttocks or over an existing scar or stretch mark.

Once the incision has been created, the Aveli™ device will be inserted under the skin, and your surgeon will secure the septa with a small hook. They can then put a small amount of tension on the device to pull down the cellulite dimple farther, ensuring they have secured the correct septa.

A retractable blade is then used to carefully cut the septa and release the dimpling within the skin. Your surgeon will then immediately go back under the same area to receive instant confirmation that they have released the targeted dimple or line.

What to Expect During Aveli™ Cellulite Treatment

Aveli™ is generally performed under local anesthesia with oral medication given upfront. We also offer IV sedation for patients who desire maximum comfort. When combined with liposuction, IV sedation is often the preferred choice.

The entire in-office procedure takes about an hour, including the local anesthesia. Treatment of multiple spots of cellulite may take 2 or so hours to complete.

What are the Benefits of Aveli™ Cellulite Treatment??

Aveli™ makes visible, lasting improvements in the appearance of cellulite after just one in-office procedure. The Aveli™ device also allows practitioners more precision when locating and breaking the septa compared to other cellulite-reduction methods, such as Qwo®.

Qwo® uses an injectable enzyme to essentially melt the connective tissue that is causing depression in the skin. While Qwo® effectively dissolves the connective tissue, it is not precise, and it must be injected into the general area where the band is located.

Part of the problem with this is that the chemical agent also dissolves the lining of tiny blood vessels, so Qwo® treatment generally causes extensive bruising. Furthermore, the treatment is fairly modest and requires three treatments several weeks apart for impactful results. Aveli™, on the other hand, can create more dramatic improvements in cellulite dimpling after just one treatment.

    Additional benefits of Aveli™ include:

  • FDA-cleared for the treatment of cellulite on the buttocks and thighs
  • Minimally invasive
  • A long-term solution to the appearance of cellulite
  • Minimal downtime
  • No general anesthesia
  • Visibly improved skin smoothness after just one treatment

Who is a Good Candidate for Aveli™ Cellulite Treatment?

If you have unwanted cellulite and are looking for a long-term solution, you may be a good candidate for Aveli™. Treatment with Aveli™ visibly reduces the appearance of cellulite but does not address skin laxity. If you have loose skin along with cellulite, an additional treatment will likely be recommended with Morpheus8.

Is There Any Downtime With Aveli™ Cellulite Treatment?

There is very minimal downtime associated with Aveli™ treatments. In a clinical trial, most patients returned to their daily activities within 24-48 hours of the procedure. It is not recommended to work out or undergo strenuous activity for the first one to two weeks after treatment.

For the first 24 hours after Aveli™, patients may experience some mild pain and discomfort at the treatment site. During recovery, patients may also experience bruising and tenderness to the touch, but these side effects are typically minor and resolve within 30 days. Full cellulite-reduction results will be visible once swelling and bruising subside after approximately one month.

Why Should You Choose Coolspa for Your Cellulite Treatment?

At Coolspa, Aveli™ cellulite reduction is performed by experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons. The founder of Coolspa, Dr. Rapaport, is a leader in the cosmetic surgery field, with decades of positive results. In contrast, many other medical spa providers who offer cellulite treatments have never dealt with the complexities of body contouring or the skin’s underlying layers.

Many patients that come to us for Aveli™ choose to have a body contouring procedure, such as liposuction, performed at the same time. This way, they only have one recovery timeline and can benefit from better pricing options.

The team of body sculpting specialists at Coolspa can reduce your cellulite with a careful eye for aesthetic balance and artistic harmony. Through our extensive knowledge and experience, Coolspa has earned a reputation for offering among the best results available in the New York area.
